Photogrpahy Background

My photography experience started with the Micro 4/3 system where I was lucky enough to have access to lots of interesting vintage lenses (Helios / Super Takumar & many more). These really intrigued me during my time at university and sparked my passion for photography.

Once I had my first job I was fortunate enough to invest in some new gear, colleges of mine were advocates for the Sony Mirrorless system & having come from the M4/3 background this seemed like a logical next step. I First purchased a Sony A7 II which was an amazing entry to the full frame world. My first full frame lens was the Samyang 100mm 1:1 macro lens which I highly recommend. I eventually upgraded to the Laowa 100mm 2:1 lens & the Sony A7 R II with improved dynamic range & resolution.

Photography has been one of my most consistent hobbies over the last 6 years, having used lots of vintage & manual focus lenses I feel I have gained a great appreciation of the mechanics of photography. I’ve used this hobby as an excuse to get out into the world and explore nature in ways I could not without either a macro or telephoto lens.

Professional Background

I completed my Masters in Electronic & Communications Engineering (MEng) at the University of Kent Canterbury campus (UKC) back in 2017, this qualification was IET Accredited.

My first job was at Frontier Smart Technologies (Formally Frontier Silicon) as a ‘Hardware Engineer’ while in this roll i worked on the following projects,

  • Venice X Module / Reference Platform development & testing

  • Siena DAB module (Words smallest DAB Radio) development & testing

  • Radio Equipment Directive (RED) testing

  • Minuet Google Voice Assistant (GVA) platform development & testing

  • Reference Platform Development / Maintenance

  • Smart IoT Alexa Platform (AVS) proof of concept design Projects

After Frontier Smart Technologies was acquired by science group, I moved into Sagentia innovations as a Systems Engineer (At Engineer 2 Grade).

As a systems engineer I have gained experience in the following skills

  • System Architecture Definition

  • Component Selection

  • Requirement Documentation

  • Proof of Principle (PoP) design & testing

  • Project Management

  • Mechanical design & Rapid prototyping

  • Schematic Capture

  • PCB Design & Review
